A new project with Hilary... The Improbable Product!

I didn't really have many ideas for this... found it hard to brainstorm ideas! But I narrowed it down to Air Guitar (which has been done to death) and Geek Repellant - and I chose the repellant, lets face it... it is in need recently lol

We have to look at branding and how it works... then brand our own company to fit in with the current market etc

Possibilities of my product so far:

• Cream/Moisturiser
• Nail Varnish
• Spray/Deodorant/ Perfume
• Talcum Powder
• Breath Mints
• Chewing Gum
• Disinfectant spray
• Necklace/Bracelet

I'm thinking that my brand, which I have kinda named Glitch - like a computer glitch, geeks don't like glitches!, will be aimed at teenagers/young adults.... 13 - 25ish

Due to my target age range, I have decided it needs to be an accessible product like Impulse/So...?/Lynx and so cannot be sophisticated or as expensive as designer brands such as Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Gucci etc

BUT I have decided that nowadays fashion conscious youth would be attracted to the Glossy magazine adverts that designers like DKNY, Calvin Klein and Burberry, and so am thinking about maybe shooting an attempt.









I need to make sure my brand doesn't turn out into the novelty disaster that it could...!

I am REALLY excited about this project now... My brand identity ideas have come on quite a bit since the first edit of this post!!

This is the idea now:

Brand: Glitch
Product: Perfume
Style: Fashion/Trendy/ Topshop/ IT-Girl - think Juicy Couture style packaging
Market Competition: Juicy Couture, FCUK, DKNY etc

I'm doing a photoshoot in the photography studio next Friday :) With me and Sophie as the girls, Aaron as the 'hot boy' and Bobbins as the 'geek'.

I'm doing the rock/grunge/dark/edgy style and Sophie is doing the cute/sweet/pretty/girlie/flowery style :)

It SHOULD turn out amaze... I've got loads of ideas for poses etc

And I love this project so much I'm planning on doing perfume packaging, tester sticks and some point of sale displays of the advert in A4/A3 :) - I can't wait, hope it turns out as good as it looks in my head haha :)


UPDATE 21.03.09 - I went to collect my perfume bottle today (I won it from ebay, but instead of paying P&P I went to pick it up because the seller only lives in Kings Lynn!) and it is beautiful :) Very happy with it!

So anyway, I have been thinking about what type of packaging to do and like the style of some packaging Hilary brought in by Molton & Brown...

The ribbon ties it all together AND is pretty too! :) I made my own version according to measurements of my perfume bottle (only about 3 inches high!)









:) Add some nice card, some of the nice ribbon I bought from the Fent shop, a gift bag and the tag/label I'm planning to make to hang on the bottle and VOILA - Glitch packaging :)


UPDATE 22.03.09 - It's half 9 on a sunday... and I'm awake :S

I've gone dotty on the perfume box...

What do you think? It's looking classier? :)

... was an absolute nightmare, and not too accurate but looks nice? :)

It bends and everything (Doesn't QUITE fold up though, I blame either the card or my measuring!)





I haven't glued it because my glue gun has ran out of glue :( and I haven't attached the handles yet because my hole punch won't fit over the card... but hopefully I can find something in the 3D workshop tomorrow in Emma's lesson to make the hole... AND I'm thinking of using eyelets so the holes don't tear? :)

Oh, and I didn't realise this until now but I've got the join on the front corner (left hand side - look and you can see 2 different dots) :( Should have thought about that a bit more...

Bad Timing

... I admit, recently I have been a little clumbsy. BUT I NEVER expected this to happen in a million years!

Last night, when I got home from work I smashed my watch into like... a million pieces*? :(

* I don't actually know how many pieces its broken into, there are bits on my floor and then still a lot in the watch - although I doubt there are a million hah



I hit it against the arm of my chair and didn't realise anything until I stood on a shard of glass... and then saw the damage :( I know I'm quite strong for a girl (A couple of years ago I snapped a toilet handle off by just flushing it, not with a lot of force... just casually! Haha) but really... I didn't move my arm with that much force :S

I really love/d my watch... I missed it today - I never realised how dependant I was on knowing the time!
It was an 18th birthday present from my best friends.... so it has sentimental value too. And for this reason I can't help but feel guilty that I actually am quite pleased it broke - I think it's created a really nice piece of 'art', the smash being right in the centre of the face.
I think it's beautifully done hah

I can't help but think it is some kind of sign? It smashed right at the centre(heart?) and the glass has been forced down, freezing the hands at 20 to 12. Maybe I'm reading into this too much? hah

But anyway, I just bought one exactly the same from ebay for £1.75. I might be more careful this time!

Life Drawing Class - Eeek!

..... how much does that sign being on the door scare you?

Well our teacher Paul has been kind of... threatening us (well it WILL happen anyway) with having to draw some naked people. And today was the day!

We were a bit reluctant to go... so we stayed in our room as long as possible but Paul came and found us... saying that we couldn't laugh or say anything horrible and also warning us that the model was 'a little bit skinny'.

We was all REALLY nervous going into the room... to find:



Yes. A skeleton.

Only Paul and Chris saw the funny side... everyone else was relieved - until Paul said we would deffinitely be doing a life drawing next week :(

I like skeletons better :)

Greyfriar's Art Gallery

The College Art & Design department rented out Greyfriar's Art Gallery for a week to showcase some of the work students have done.... Fine Art, Photography, Textiles, Graphics.... lots of different things on show!

You remember my Merchant of Venice poster that I did for a project like a month ago? Well my tutor used a letter of my meat font on the exhibition leaflet.... its like all over the college :) AND causing a bit of controvery too... someone signed in the visitors book 'Love the work. Hate the poster.' Haha :)

Here's the Graphic's posters.... a mix of 1st Year Modern Shakespeare posters and 2nd Year Movie Posters. My poster got picked, wooo!

Catwalk Queen

I read The Times newspaper at work... and came across this front page of The Times2 (alternative pull out section of music, fashion and art etc).

I really love the composition.




The original front cover had a heading bit written on the catwalk but I used the trusty scalpal to cut it out and have glued a white background to it, making the catwalk stand out as brilliant white :)

I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to do with this yet, but I don't want to forget about it so by posting it I'm making sure I won't lose it :)

Meanwhile, it will be blue-tacked to my wardrobe door - I love fashion, and that includes shows :)

Autumn Fashion Shoot

I wanted to add some Photography work to my portfolio so me and my 2 best friends went to the park in Kings Lynn (known as 'The Walks' to locals) and shot some fashion type, autumn photos in November 2007.
It was a bit chilly, but a nice sunny day luckily :)
We took LOADS of clothes and accessories in a tiny Ford KA.... and got changed inside it with all the stuff! OMG You should have seen the mess.. clothes everywhere! And a few weird looks too :)

It took quite a bit of organising and planning due to weather conditions, deciding which clothes to take and what kind of style I wanted. Here's a scan of a print off of my inspiration...



A couple of pictures are actually of The Walks, numbers 2,3,5,6,9,10, but inparticular I wanted to shoot something like number 6. Unfortuantly the 'Red Mount' was off limits because they were doing some kind of building work so couldn't get near it :(

I think they do an open day once a year, but I missed it :( If you live in Kings Lynn - I want to know when the open day is this year! Haha

This one is edited(quite badly) in Photoshop because we couldn't all sit at the same time so I had to edit Steph in... the angle of her picture wasn't right so it really sticks out like a sore thumb :( I would really like to re-shoot this one day!
